A Good Foundation || Part Four

Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation Review

At this point at had been trying to get to the bottom of this perplexing foundation problem for about a month. I reached out to two members of the tribal council, Zoe and Allison. Both recommended things I had already tried, so I was sort of back at GO. Interestingly, they both shared what they were using, Laura Mercier Mineral Powder and Bare Minerals Foundation respectively, both mineral powder foundations. They each had awesome things to say about staying power and coverage. Nevertheless, I was still hesitant because I had used mineral powder foundation in the past from Bare Minerals both original and matte with results that were rather mask like and prompted comments from friends along the lines of “Oh, you look great, wearing makeup today, huh?” Really, not what I want to hear, I don’t ever want my makeup to be obvious or a conversation starter. So I found myself in a Sephora.

After two weeks of trying varying combinations of Laura Mericer Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer Jouer Matte Moisture Tint, and various primers I reached for one of my faves, Vapour Organic Atmosphere Luminous Foundation. I love this foundation from Vapour, its great for travel (TSA be dammed, more room other products) and you can layer it throughout the day without having your face feeling restricted or mask-like, oh, and it’s non-toxic.  Follow after the jump for how it held up.

foundationreviews

I went back to one of my longstanding favorite foundations, Laura Mericer Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve reviewed it before, and I’ve bought about a dozen bottles of this stuff over the years. It is pretty amazing in the summer, for brunch and for when you just want to be low key.

Without primer, this just does not stay on your face. It absorbs somewhere and leaves you looking like you just had sex in a closet, somewhere between winded and glow-y, not terrible and sexy in that way that leftover eyeliner speaks volumes about how you spent the last twelve hours, but entirely not work appropriate.  Follow after the jump to see how it performed on a 12 hour day with a few primers.

So, I’ve profiled this foundation before. Jouer Matte Moisture Tint I generally love it. It’s super flattering, matte, and leaves a really lovely airbrushed finish that lasts for about 6-7 hours. It’s pretty perfect for events where you know you’re going to be photographed. In these situations, it’s pretty much a dream. The color match for me was super hard, so I mix nude + chamomile for the perfect color. Follow after the jump to find out why for work it’s not so hot.

S.W. Basics of Brooklyn LemongrassBodyOil

I love using body oil in place of body lotion. I think its more comfortable and more effective at moisturizing, especially early in the morning. I’ve used so many over the years, usually really inexpensive ones from Whole Foods, like jojoba or sesame oils.  But sometimes I like to use one that’s a bit more luxurious and special. The folks at S.W. Basics of Brooklyn must be reading my blog because a) I love lemongrass, and b) I love body oils.  Continue reading
