Lipstick Challenge Day 25: The French do it Better

homeoplasmine

Homeoplasmine, $24.99

This stuff is amazing. On the lips its pure matte, velvet moisture love (if thats a thing), but in a pinch the other day I slathered this on my hands for some quick relief from the dry, cracking hands that winter has decided to bestow. I know I mention a lot of hand cream on the blog, but what I don’t mention is that as the temperature dips even more, I need more moisture, I need more help, my hands are getting out of control. Peeling cuticles, cracking knuckles, dry patches you name it my hands have it- and its not pretty.  Continue reading

Cheap Thrills: Beech Wood Bath Bar Dish

soapdish

Whole Truth Solutions Beech Wood Bath Bar Dish  $5.00

I originally got this for my Lush King of Skin Moisture Bar, after I ignored the advice of the Lush folks to keep this either out of the shower or to keep it in a dish in the shower. I ignored their advice and the moisture bar quickly dwindled down to nothing way to quickly for its price tag (I’m slightly smarter with the moisture bar and I now keep it outside of the shower, and so far its lasted twice as long). Nevertheless, I still had this soap dish without a purpose. Continue reading

Faking it

Matcha Mask

Pangea Organics Facial Mask Japanese Matcha Tea With Acai and Goji Berry, $30.00, or Travel Size $12.00

Face masks are such an odd category of things. They purport to do so much but really they just sit on the top of your skin for five to thirty minutes, so I always wonder how much good can they really do? What can they really change? Continue reading

Get Back Into It

solanpas

Solanpas Pain Relieving Patch, $5.99

Aside from the very cool striped down packaging, this stuff works. The other night, I had the worst, the worst back pain, something I generally do not experience, but my lack of working out and my epic fall off the yoga train, plus studying all day in the worlds most uncomfortable stool, has taken its toll. Continue reading

King Spa & Sauna, Chicago, $25

So, this was probably the most insane spa I have ever been to. My girlfriend had been before to this one and to the Spa Castle in NYC, so I thought I was mildly prepared because she talks about it frequently. Nevertheless I was decidedly not. Continue reading

Lipstick Challenge Day 11: Cheap Thrills

burts bees

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm $7.00 in Rose, Tiger Lily and  Hibiscus

I love a good cheap thrill, and these are rather awesome. I hate the original Burt’s Bees lip balm. When people love it, I just know they need to have their eyes open to other greater lip balms that are out there.  I think the Burt’s Bees original is overly waxy and for me it leaves white ring around my mouth if I am not careful. So when I picked up these guys, I was hesitant. Continue reading

Magic Oil

dr alkiatis

Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil $79.95

You know when you have a blemish, and you try to kill it via popping, squeezing, masks, drying spot treatment etc., and then your left with a whopping dry spot on your face. Flaky and weird and 100% not a surface suitable for concealer. Continue reading

Let’s pretend its 1998

bodyshopshea

Shea Body Butter, on sale $9.50

For whatever reason, The Body Shop, reminds me of 1998- early suburban malls, Contempo Casuals, United Colors of Benetton- that 1998. Last month I was in Boston to quit smoking with the Mad Russian, and was killing time waiting for my friend to get out of her quit smoking class, when I stumbled upon a brick and mortar Body Shop. I had run out of hand lotion, and it seemed like an opportunity to visit an old friend. Continue reading
